Introducting Jimna

A simple way to track reps for pushups, bicep curls, squats, and more…

I'm bad at exercising.

Two months ago, with the "work out more" item on my to-do list taunting me, I figured I'd start small: just do 100 pushups.

But it seemed lame to keep track of this on paper. Or in Apple Notes. Or in any app that required more typing than exercising.

Plus, we have computers now! Aren't they good at counting?

After some quick ChatGPTing, I found something interesting: my computer was perfectly capable of counting my pushups, but nobody had yet built a fully functioning app for making it do that.

So, I built one.

What is Jimna?

Jimna is a simple way to keep track of your exercise reps using the camera on your phone, laptop, or tablet.

Right now, it supports pushups, squats, bicep curls, hammer curls, dumbbell overhead presses, jumping jacks, lunges, and crunches.

I'm adding new exercises almost every day, and soon expect to support hundreds of moves.

How does it work?

Jimna runs Tensorflow's Movenet neural network locally in your browser — the video never hits Jimna's servers — and uses the location of key points to detect when you've completed a rep.

Who is Jimna for?

Jimna is for anyone who wants to exercise more. In particular, people like me who have trouble staying motivated, and are encouraged by seeing data on their progress (or lack thereof).

How much does it cost?

Nothing!
